Thirty-two handmade marble checkers pieces in genuine oceanic marble and natural travertine — two warm-toned geological stones that produce a softer, more muted contrast than any black-and-white checker set on the market. These stone checker pieces weigh 2 pounds as a complete set of 32, ship without a board, and work as both a direct replacement checker pieces solution for any existing checkers set and a genuine natural stone upgrade for buyers moving away from plastic or wooden game discs.

    Key Features

    • 32 genuine natural stone checker figures — 16 oceanic marble discs and 16 natural travertine discs, each 1.25 inches in diameter and 0.5 inches thick, with a hand-cut spiral concentric ring carved into the top face of every piece
    • Two warm-toned geological stones — oceanic marble's warm grey-brown mottled crystalline surface contrasts with travertine's warm beige-cream pitted matte surface; a softer warm-neutral two-stone pairing distinct from high-contrast black-and-white sets
    • No board included — sold as a standalone checker pieces set for use with any existing standard checkers board; fully compatible with all Speshstones 15-inch marble and travertine checkers boards
    • Stackable cylindrical profile — 1.25-inch diameter, 0.5-inch thick flat-faced discs stack stably for kinged pieces during play; tested stable in stacks of six or more pieces
    • SpeshStones branded secure fragile packaging — every set ships in purpose-built protective packaging designed for natural stone transit; free US shipping included

    Benefits & Use Cases

A Warm-Toned Natural Stone Alternative to High-Contrast Checker Sets

Most marble checkers pieces on the market pair a light stone against a very dark or black stone — producing a high-contrast board look that works in certain interiors and not others. This oceanic and travertine checker pieces set takes a different approach: two genuinely warm-toned stones — oceanic marble's grey-brown mottled crystalline surface alongside travertine's warm beige-cream sedimentary texture — that produce a quieter, more muted natural contrast suited to contemporary, organic-modern, and warm-neutral interior palettes where a black-and-white pairing would feel jarring.

The two stones remain visually distinct during active play. Oceanic marble's grey-brown tone and crystalline mineral texture separate clearly from travertine's beige-cream matte pitting across a board surface — the pieces track without difficulty while presenting a two-tone stone palette that reads as a natural material object at rest. For buyers whose home interiors use warm grey, greige, linen, and natural wood tones, this marble checker set integrates into the surface it sits on rather than competing with it.

Standalone Replacement and Upgrade Checker Pieces

These stone checker pieces sell without a board, which makes them the direct solution for two distinct buyer situations. First, buyers who have lost or damaged pieces from an existing checkers set get a complete replacement — all 32 checker pieces across both sides — without purchasing a full new board-and-piece bundle at full set price. Second, buyers who own a high-quality checkers board but still use the plastic or lightweight wooden pieces it came with get a genuine natural stone upgrade without replacing a board they already own.

At 2 pounds for the complete 32-piece set, the stone checker discs carry a density and surface presence that no plastic piece replicates. Each move with a genuine oceanic marble or travertine disc delivers a tactile weight and surface texture that changes the physical experience of a standard checkers game — the cool crystalline surface of oceanic marble against the warm matte pitting of travertine is a qualitatively different game object than a lightweight stamped plastic token.

A Natural Stone Board Game Object for Any Interior

Between games, 32 genuine marble board game pieces stored in a bowl, displayed on a tray, or arranged on a checkers board surface read as a curated natural stone object rather than a game accessory in need of storage. The oceanic marble and travertine color combination — warm grey-brown crystalline stone alongside warm beige-cream pitted stone — works within the warm-neutral, organic-modern, and Japandi interior palettes that currently define mainstream home decor. These natural travertine game pieces do not fade, warp, or degrade from display exposure — a set purchased today displays the same stone character years later without refinishing, resealing, or replacement.

    Materials & Craftsmanship

These handmade checker pieces are cut and finished from two genuine natural geological stones — oceanic marble and natural travertine — with no synthetic materials, dyes, or coatings in any part of the set.

Oceanic marble is a metamorphic rock formed when limestone undergoes extreme geological heat and pressure — the same transformation process that produces all genuine marble. Oceanic marble's characteristic warm grey-brown color and mottled crystalline surface come from the mineral composition of the original limestone and the specific conditions of its metamorphic transformation. The visible mineral veining, crystalline interlocking structure, and warm grey-brown tones across every oceanic marble disc in this set are entirely natural geological properties — not dye, paint, or surface treatment. No two oceanic marble stone checker discs carry identical veining patterns, confirming individually hand-cut genuine stone rather than cast or molded pieces.

Natural travertine is a sedimentary limestone formed by calcium carbonate precipitation from mineral spring water. Its warm beige-cream color and heavy characteristic natural surface pitting are geological properties of genuine travertine — the pore size, depth, and distribution across every travertine disc varies from piece to piece, confirming individual hand-cut genuine stone. The spiral concentric ring carved into the top face of each travertine disc is hand-cut directly into the natural stone surface.

No paint, dye, resin, adhesive, or synthetic coating is used anywhere in this marble checkers pieces set. The warm-toned two-stone contrast visible across the full 32-piece set comes entirely from the natural geological properties of two genuinely different stone types.

    Care Instructions

Oceanic marble discs: Wipe the polished and semi-matte surfaces with a soft damp microfibre cloth after each game session to remove fingerprint oils and dust from the crystalline stone surface. Oceanic marble's mottled grey-brown surface shows dust and residue less readily than polished black marble — a light cloth wipe after play is sufficient for routine maintenance. For deeper cleaning after outdoor use, use a soft brush with mild pH-neutral soap and rinse with clean water, then dry immediately with a soft cloth.

Natural travertine discs: Use a soft-bristle brush with mild pH-neutral soap and warm water to clean the natural surface pitting on each travertine disc. The heavy pitting on genuine travertine collects fine dust, skin oils, and debris during regular play and display — a soft brush clears the pitting channels without scratching the stone surface. Rinse with clean water and dry immediately.

Both stone types: Do not use vinegar, lemon juice, citrus-based cleaners, or bleach on any surface — these permanently etch and dull both oceanic marble and natural travertine. Do not use abrasive cloths or scrubbing pads on any disc surface. For outdoor use, bring the pieces inside during extended heavy rain to prevent prolonged moisture absorption in the travertine surface pitting. Apply a food-safe penetrating stone sealer to all 32 stone checker pieces once or twice per year to protect both stone surfaces and reduce moisture absorption long-term.

A bewitching retelling of Arthurian legend!
    Format: Kindle
In a land where the Fae have nearly become only a legend and those who still posses even a morsel of the blood are few and far between, Morgan finds herself cast aside by most of society due to her rumored half-Fae lineage, including her brother, King Arthur. With the kingdom at the brink of war, Arthur entrusts her with a quest to retrieve a Fae weapon of legendary power: the sword of Perun, Excalibur. Accompanied by men she loathes, Captain Kairos Draven and Ragnar Whitehorn, she embarks on her long and unbeknownst perilous journey, only to find that things she once believed to be myth are in fact very real. With devastating twists, omitted truths, witty banter and fierce action, Queen of Roses leaves you begging to know more about the secrets of Aercanum! Wow, wow, wow! Going into this story, I did not realize that it was going to be a retelling of Arthurian legend, especially not one with a fantastical twist! The unique spin almost gave me The Witcher vibes and I think adding Fae into the mix was quite interesting. I knew the basics of the legend but after reading this book, it has piqued my interest and makes me want to learn more about it. My attention was snatched as soon as I finished the prologue and I knew that I was going to devour this story. I truly enjoyed the gender swaps and even how Arthur was portrayed as villainous. Morgan’s past and even her parts of her present is absolutely heartbreaking, and I felt for her at times. I can only recall one other book that made me hate characters the way I despised Florian and Arthur, leaving me with my blood boiling and feeling disgusted. Even after finishing the book, Draven is still a mystery to me and I cannot figure out how to feel about him. I guess they just means that the author did an excellent job at conveying each character’s persona! The rich world building and imagery made it easy for me to visualize the places that the group visited along their journey. I am truly engulfed in this story and I cannot wait to see wait fate awaits Morgan and how the Fae will be even more incorporated in the next book!. I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

    Enchanting
    Format: Kindle
"Queen of Roses" by Briar Boleyn is a delightful and refreshing reimagining of the classic tale of King Arthur, with a captivating twist that places the spotlight on Morgan, a character who has often been overshadowed in traditional retellings. Boleyn's creative decision to shift the narrative perspective to Morgan breathes new life into the story, offering readers an intriguing and compelling look at the Arthurian world from an entirely different angle. One of the most commendable aspects of this book is its incorporation of Fae elements, which adds an enchanting layer of magic and mystery to the already familiar Arthurian setting. Boleyn skillfully weaves the world of the Fae into the narrative, creating a captivating backdrop against which the events of the story unfold. This addition not only adds depth to the world-building but also provides ample opportunities for twists and turns that keep readers thoroughly engrossed. However, while the book boasts numerous strengths, it does have one noticeable flaw: the characterization of Morgan. While it is reasonable to create a flawed and complex protagonist, it appears that at times, Morgan's character becomes overly difficult and hard to relate to. Her persistently negative perception of one of the main male characters, who is a potential love interest, despite his efforts to support and assist her, may come across as somewhat irrational and could test the patience of some readers. Striking a balance between a strong, independent character and one who can recognize genuine support and affection could have enhanced the overall reader experience. Nonetheless, the allure of "Queen of Roses" lies in its innovative approach to the Arthurian legend and its skillful blending of fantasy elements into a familiar narrative. Boleyn's evocative prose draws readers into a world where magic, destiny, and fate entwine, leaving us eager to uncover the mysteries that unfold within the pages. An action-packed dark romantasy
    Format: Kindle
I loved this book! Queen of Roses is an Arthurian-inspired dark romantasy that is the first book in the Blood of Fae series. The story follows Morgan, the princess of Camelot who is rumored to be part fae. Fueled by prejudiced hatred and a mistrust of fae blood, Morgan’s abusive father strips her of her birthright and hands it to her half-brother, Arthur. Instead of becoming queen, Morgan is commanded to join the temple of the goddesses when she comes of age. However, Arthur turns into a psychopathic, power-hungry, fae-hating king as he ages. He develops malevolent plans and commands Morgan to find an ancient weapon with legendary power. Although Morgan is wary of Arthur’s intentions, she embraces the opportunity to go on a journey and potentially change her fate. The story picks up from there and we follow Morgan on her quest to find the ancient relic. It’s full of high stakes adventure, mystery, tension, banter, forced proximity, hidden magic, self discovery, and betrayal. This first installment of the series intricately develops the world building and character development. There’s little romance in this book, but it is evident that it is a slow burn that will continue to develop throughout the remainder of the series. Overall, I loved the world building, the epic fantasy, Morgan’s journey of self discovery, and all of the twists and turns that set the stage for the future installments. I can’t wait to see what happens next!

    Arthurian Fae Quest…say less.
    Format: Kindle
A fae centered Arthurian tale unlike any I’ve read so far. The author did a great job at descriptive world building, with scenes easily playing out in my minds eye. There was plenty of action, suspense, and even a touch of horror. An enemies to lovers, slow burn romance, a quest, with plot twist and turns aplenty. There was a love triangle, which I’m not usually a fan of but, it played out well in this story line. The FMC, Morgan Pendragon, was so blatantly naïve, yet I typically expect as much in a ‘book one’ of a series, especially one that features a fairly sheltered princess. I was happy to read that in spite of this, she still showed a strong sense of morals, fire, and spine. Now our MMC? Kairos Draven, aka Void’s Edge. Oh, how I’m a sucker for a smoking’ hot grumpy warrior alpha with a witty mouth, and a strong sense of “touch her and die” attitude, so you know who held all my cards. That ending? Just made me swoon all the harder. Now add a battlecat that rivals the size of a horse…and well Ms. Briar Boleyn you have well and truly stolen my heart. I’m excited to see where the story goes from here, and follow along to see more of the characters growth. I went into this story fairly blind, and I think I enjoyed it all the more because of it. Once the story got going, it had me in an absolute chokehold and it was difficult to put down.

    Not a bad start
    Format: Kindle
3 stars Thank you Netgalley and Briar Boleyn for the ARC! A camelot/king Arthur retelling with fae. I was hooked by the idea of this book immediately and was eager to jump into this world. • slow burn • enemies to lovers • who did this to you Morgan Pendragon watched her mother die by her father's hand when she was just eight years old, hiding under the bed. Morgan is believed to have the tainted blood of the fae in her veins and is cast aside so that her fathers illegitimate son, Arthur, can become the king. She's seen his cruel treatment of the fae firsthand, so when he sends her on a journey to find a fae weapon she seizes the opportunity to do more with her life. Along the way, she finds more than she could have imagined. I don't know a whole lot about King Arthur and Camelot but I had a lot of fun with this story! The plot has some similar tropes to popular romantasy books (From blood and ash) but there's enough originality here that it doesn't feel like I'm reading a copy. I liked how the fae were different in appearance than what is typical in most fantasy books I've read. In this book they have blue hair, violet skin and a wide range of other characteristics. I thought that the world building was easy to follow and I could easily immerse myself into this world. After reading the blurb I kept wondering when she was going to go on the journey to find Excalibur and it doesn't happen until around the 45% mark. The story is a bit slow at times but starts to pick up once they begin their journey to find Excalibur. The John Wick style Inn was a fun concept that I enjoyed reading about. There are a lot of similarities to this and FBAA and I would have liked to have it be a little more different, but I'm hoping book two will have the story turn into something of its own. Overall I enjoyed reading this story and I'm looking forward to reading book two especially after that ending.
